Fall in Maine
Each change of season in Maine brings with it exciting new views to paint, I love the colors of fall. After painting so much green and more green since spring it is refreshing to bust out the bright yellows, oranges and reds of autumn. I admit to being a paint addict. I have more colors than I need to be able to mix any color I want. Having lots of colors available is not a problem so long as I don't try to use too many of them in one painting. That would lead to sure disaster.
I have two paintings to share with you today. The first is inspired by my view out the back windows of my house. Our house faces West/ North West so we have great sunsets. Also because we are up so high I can see the weather changes coming across the mountains and the lake below. Some of the sunsets I have watched from here nobody would believe if I painted them. Remember those cheesy 70s posters we all had on our bedroom walls? You know, the ones with the orange sunset and some poem about everlasting love? They're real folks! Last week we had an evening when the clouds were clearing and soft colors laid on the horizon.

The other painting I have to share if of Pumpkin Nob in Casco Bay. I wanted to depict a still, warm fall day when the water is calm and satiny, and the bright afternoon sun makes the fall colors dance. I am very happy with the way this painting turned out.

I hope you have all had a beautiful fall. The leaves are nearly all down here now and soon the snow will come. Then it will be time to bring out my winter colors! Won't that be fun?!
